NoVaHealthFORCE Goals and Accomplishments 2005
On June 23, 2005, The Northern Virginia Health Care Workforce Alliance released its study: The Health Care Workforce Shortage: An Analysis of the Scope and Impact on Northern Virginia.
The Alliance changed its name to NoVaHealthFORCE, located its office in SkillSource,Inc. and developed an action plan based upon the three goals that emerged from the study.

Capacity (Increasing educational capacity within the health care education and training system):
- Presentation at national Capital HealthCare Executives - February
- Presentation at Northern Virginia Technology Council’s meeting of northern Virginia delegates- September 7
- Presentation at Virginia Nurses Legislative Coalition- October 1
- Interview with Nursing Spectrum- October 4 (also Pipeline)
- Estimate of RN’s added to workforce by nursing schools in region
- Meeting with Deans of Nursing of Regional nursing programs to clarify the projected number of nursing graduates for the next decade and to discuss issues and implications of increasing educational capacity through a cooperative effort- October 6
- Meeting with area Public School Superintendents to discuss how public schools can participate within capacity and pipeline goals – October 7
- Briefed Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce’s Policy Committee - October 7
- Meeting with legislative committee to define agenda and develop strategy- October 11
- Presentation of NoVaHealthFORCE to Council on Adult and Experiential Learning, (CAEL), Chicago – November 11
- Presentation and briefing to the Governor’s Advisory and Task Force on Nursing Education - November 21
- Inaugural meeting of Health Care and Education Presidents’ Roundtable (NVCC, George Mason University, Shenandoah University, Old Dominion University, Marymount University, Inova Health System, Virginia Hospital Center, Potomac Hospital Center, and Prince William Health System) to pledge support and commit to establishing a long term strategy to address shortage. This body will meet twice per year – December 1

- Briefed DC Area Health Sciences Libraries (DCAHSL) and the Northern Virginia Health Sciences Librarians Group (NVHSLG) - June 27
- Award of Met Life Foundation grant to establish bridge program for recent high school graduates- July 30

- Briefed NVWIB Board of Directors on HealthFORCE Implementation Plan - August 4

- Outreach accomplishments:
- Expanding Visions Program (150 students at Key MS & 150 students at Luther Jackson MS)

- CampMed one week summer camp for middle school students funded by VHHA in partnership with Virginia Hospital Center

- Presentation of NoVaHealthFORCE at the American Health Information Management Association (50K members) Annual Convention in San Diego - October 17
- Addressed the Work Force for Health Information Transformation: A Strategy Summit in Washington, DC The summit—co-sponsored by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA)—brought together public and private stakeholders from academia, professional associations, provider and payer organizations, business, industry, and government to develop a roadmap for how the industry can build a trained work force to implement and support health information systems. - November 9
